Many kings often used to make their statues to show their worth and wealth.

In ancient time the process of polishing is not in work. That’s why the if we see the ancient time statues, they are rough. They are not that shiny and polished.
Behind every invention there is a need of something perfection or want to get something better or best. When Greek artist was not getting satisfaction with their work and realize that there is something missing in their work, they think that polishing can enhance their work’s details and make it soft and smooth like original skin.
- Greek person uses ‘pumice stone’ to polish and this technique called “soothing by abrasion”.
- Then Roman person get inspired by the Greek’s technology they also want to enhance their statue’s quality so they add “colored waxes and oils”.
So basically, in the ancient time artist use pumice and water to polish the statues. They rub pumice on the statue with water. It required to much time and power. By the time today we developed so many techniques to polish the marble statues and make them more detailed and look like alive.
